Only on Taskly
One post, the whole situation handled
Several jobs bought as one outcome — one Tasker, one price to agree, no coordinating three trades yourself.
Draught-proof before winter
Weatherstripping, sweeps and seals replaced on every exterior door, the worst windows addressed, and the obvious gaps found before the first cold snap rather than during it.
Post this taskFront entrance, all of it
The door, the frame, the threshold and the hardware replaced together so the seal is continuous — with the lock rekeyed and the exterior light working on the same visit.
Post this taskGarage sorted
The door balanced and serviced or replaced, the opener set correctly, and the weather seal at the base renewed so the winter stays outside it.
Post this taskOne room, sealed and finished
A window replaced, the trim reinstated, the wall made good and repainted — so the job ends as a finished room rather than a new window in a damaged wall.

Local knowledge
Priced for how the GTA actually lives
Four things that change a windows & doors quote here, and nowhere else.
Minus twenty to thirty-plus
The install matters more than the sticker
A Toronto window has to hold a boundary across a fifty-degree annual swing. A well-specified unit fitted badly still leaks air at the frame, and the February draught is far more often the installation than the glass.
Retrofit or full-frame
Water damage rules out the cheap option
A retrofit sets a new unit inside the old frame and never touches the flashing or the sill. If the reason for replacing is water rather than draught, that is exactly the part that has to come out.
Old openings
A century house is not square
Slab door replacement assumes a square, sound frame. In older GTA stock the opening usually is not, which is why a pre-hung unit — frame and door together — is the honest answer more often than not.
Torsion springs
The one job to hand over
Garage door springs hold enough stored energy to injure seriously. A door that is heavy to lift or rises unevenly is a spring problem, not an opener problem, and it is not a homeowner repair.
What a replacement usually covers
- Removing the existing unit and disposing of it
- Fitting, shimming and squaring the new unit in the opening
- Insulating and sealing the perimeter, inside and out
- Exterior caulking rated for the season it is applied in
- Interior trim reinstated or replaced where it was disturbed
Painting, drywall repair around the opening and capping the exterior are often separate lines.
Try nowWhat moves the price
- How many units, and whether they are standard or custom sizes
- Retrofit into the existing frame versus full-frame to the rough opening
- What is found once the old unit is out — rot, failed flashing, a wet sill
- Storey and access, especially anything needing a ladder or scaffold
- Glass specification, and whether it needs to be tempered by code
- For doors: slab versus pre-hung, and whether the opening is square
- Season — exterior sealants have temperature minimums
Worth asking before you agree
- Is this quote a retrofit or a full-frame replacement?
- What happens to the price if there is rot in the frame or sill?
- Is the exterior capped and caulked, and with what, at this time of year?
- Is interior trim reinstated, replaced, or left for me?
- For a garage door: is this a spring, a balance or an opener problem?
- Who takes the old units away?

Questions
Frequently asked
GTA-specific answers to what people actually search for.
How much does window replacement cost in Toronto?
This page carries no band on purpose. Our pricing engine has rows for cleaning, moving, junk removal, lawn care, plumbing and electrical work — windows and doors are not among them, and a typed range would be a number derived from nothing. Post the job and compare the fixed-price offers you get back.
Retrofit or full-frame — which do I need?
If you are replacing because of draughts, condensation between the panes or looks, a retrofit into the sound existing frame is usually enough and costs less. If there is any sign of water — a soft sill, staining below the window, rot in the frame — full-frame is the only version that addresses the cause, because a retrofit never touches the flashing.
Can windows be replaced in winter?
Yes, and it is slower and more expensive. Sealants have minimum application temperatures and the opening is briefly open to the weather, so installers work one unit at a time. If a window has actually failed, replace it; if it can wait for spring, the same job is easier to schedule and generally better done.
My garage door is heavy to lift — is that the opener?
Almost certainly not. A correctly balanced door should be liftable by hand with moderate effort and should stay put halfway. Heaviness or uneven movement points at the springs, which store enough energy to cause serious injury and are not a homeowner repair. Post it as a spring or balance problem so the right person takes it.
Do I need a permit to replace a window?
Replacing like-for-like in an existing opening generally does not require one. Enlarging an opening, adding a new one, or anything structural usually does, and a condo will have its own approval process regardless. If your scope changes the opening, ask who is pulling the permit before work starts.
