Questions

Frequently asked

GTA-specific answers to what people actually search for.

How Taskly works, in full

How much does a driveway cost in Toronto?

No band on this page, deliberately. Our engine has rate rows for cleaning, moving, junk removal, lawn care, plumbing and electrical work, and paving is not one of them, so rather than type a range nobody can derive we show none. Post the driveway and compare the fixed-price offers you actually receive.

Asphalt, interlock or concrete?

Asphalt is cheapest and flexes with the freeze-thaw rather than cracking. Interlock costs more, handles movement well because it is designed to move, and individual settled areas can be lifted and relaid. Concrete is the most rigid and the least forgiving in this climate — it will crack, so the question is whether the control joints decide where.

Why did my driveway crack after two winters?

Almost always the base rather than the surface. Toronto ground freezes and thaws repeatedly, and a thin or poorly compacted granular layer moves unevenly under whatever is on top. Water is the other half — if it sits on or under the surface it freezes and expands. Both are decided before the surface goes down.

Do I need to remove the old driveway?

Usually yes if the base is the problem, which it often is. Paving over a failing base buys a smooth surface and the same failure a bit later. Removal carries real weight-based disposal fees and is normally a separate line, so confirm whether it is inside the quote before comparing two numbers.

When can paving be done?

Roughly May to October in the GTA. Asphalt needs warm ground to compact properly, concrete needs temperatures that allow it to cure, and every surface needs an unfrozen base. It is a short season the whole region competes for — asking in the autumn for the following year usually gets a better price and a real date.
