The price of a local move is decided by three things, and the amount of stuff is only one of them. The other two are access at both ends and the date. A two-bedroom on the ground floor with a driveway and a two-bedroom on the third floor of a walk-up are the same volume and a very different move, and a busy weekend costs more than the same move on a quiet weekday.
Stairs and distance from the truck are the second driver. A long carry from a permitted parking spot to the front door adds real time, and street parking may need a permit or the truck cannot legally sit there. Narrow older staircases put a hard ceiling on what furniture can go up intact, and the honest movers will tell you a sofa is not making that turn before they try, rather than after they have removed your bannister.
What you can control is preparation. Everything boxed and closed before the crew arrives, beds broken down, anything fragile carried personally, and a clear decision on what is not coming. Movers priced by the hour are the only trade where an hour of your own work the night before comes straight off the bill, and the difference between a well-prepared and an unprepared two-bedroom is routinely a couple of hours.
Insurance is the part nobody reads until they need it. Basic released-value coverage that comes with a move is calculated by weight rather than worth, which is close to nothing for anything electronic or sentimental. Ask what the mover carries, whether it is replacement value, and what the deductible is. If you are moving something genuinely valuable — instruments, art, a desktop with work on it — the honest answer is usually to carry it yourself, and any mover worth booking will tell you the same thing rather than talk you into coverage.
