Post this taskWhat to know about commercial cleaning
Commercial cleaning is not a bigger house clean. It is a different purchase with a different buyer, a different schedule and a different failure mode. Nobody is home when the work happens, the person paying is rarely the person who notices whether it was done, and the thing being bought is usually a recurring arrangement rather than a visit. That changes what matters: the specification, the access, and what happens the week the regular person is away.
The specification is the whole thing. A domestic clean can be loosely described because you are standing in the result the next morning. A commercial clean cannot, because the person who signed the agreement will not inspect it and the person who does inspect it did not sign. What prevents that going wrong is a written scope with frequencies attached — floors and washrooms daily or three times a week, desks and surfaces weekly, glass partitions and interior windows monthly, high dusting and vents quarterly. A quote against a frequency table is a quote you can hold somebody to; a quote against "clean the office" is not.
Access is the second thing, and it is usually the thing that actually goes wrong. Most commercial cleaning happens after hours, which means keys or a fob, an alarm code, a building that may lock its main doors at a fixed time, and in shared buildings a property manager who wants to know who is in the space at eleven at night. Agree all of that before the first visit rather than on the first visit. A cleaner standing outside a locked door at 9pm is a cancelled shift somebody still has to be paid for.
The other thing worth deciding early is how the work gets checked, because in a commercial arrangement nobody is standing in the result. A short sign-off sheet, or a photograph at the end of a shift, sounds like bureaucracy until the first month somebody thinks a night was missed and there is no way to establish whether it was. It also protects the cleaner, which is the part people forget: the same record that shows a night was skipped shows the other nineteen were not.
Consumables and waste are the two lines most often left ambiguous. Washroom supplies — paper, soap, liners — are either your responsibility or theirs, and both are normal, but only one of them is what you assumed. Waste is the same question: whether bags go to a bin room, a loading dock or the curb on a collection night, and whether recycling is separated to the building's rules. Settle both in the offer, because they are small costs that generate large amounts of friction when discovered later.

Settle these before the first shift
- The scope, written, with a frequency against each line
- Access: keys or fob, alarm code, and who to call if a door is locked
- Whether washroom consumables are supplied by you or by the Tasker
- Where waste goes, and how recycling is separated in your building
- What happens when the regular person is away

Questions
Frequently asked
Answers to what people actually search for.
How is commercial cleaning priced?
Against a scope and a frequency rather than an hourly guess. Floor area matters, but the number of washrooms, how many nights a week the visit happens, and whether glass and high dusting are included matter more. A specification with frequencies attached is what makes two quotes comparable.
Does the cleaning have to happen after hours?
Not always, but usually it should. Vacuuming and floor washing are disruptive during a working day, and washrooms cannot be done properly while they are in use. If daytime is unavoidable, say so in the post — it changes which parts of the scope are realistic and when.
Who supplies the washroom consumables?
Either party, and both are normal. What is not workable is leaving it unstated, because it is discovered at the moment the paper runs out. Say in the post whether you want supplies included in the price or whether you will stock them yourself.
What happens if my regular cleaner is sick?
Ask before you need to know. A single Tasker will tell you honestly that a missed night is a missed night; some will arrange cover. Neither answer is wrong, but the arrangement should be agreed in the chat rather than discovered on a Monday morning.
Do I need insurance details from a commercial cleaner?
Many building managers ask for them before granting after-hours access, so it is worth raising early. Taskers are independent and carry their own arrangements — ask directly in the chat what they hold, and get it settled before a fob is issued rather than after.
