About the role
Taskly is hiring a Frontend Developer (you may know the role as Frontend Engineer, React Developer or UI Engineer) to build the screens people use on a phone with one hand. Most arrive with a task on their mind. Many are on a mid-range phone with a patchy connection. If the first screen makes them think like a database, they leave.
You will own how Taskly looks and moves in the browser: the post-a-task flow, the offer cards, the Tasker’s workspace and the small states, like a loading state or an empty inbox, that make it feel calm. You report to the founder. Six months in, a key screen should be measurably faster on a mid-range phone, and you should be able to show the before and after.
What you’ll do
- Build the post-a-task flow in React 19 and the Next.js App Router, from the first typed word, spoken sentence or photo to the posted task.
- Design the offer cards and the comparison screen so a poster chooses a person instead of decoding a list. Show the price, the person and the reason to pick them in one glance.
- Build and extend the shared components and Tailwind CSS design tokens every screen uses, including dark mode.
- Make every flow work with a keyboard and a screen reader, and meet WCAG 2.2 AA contrast and focus requirements. Test with real assistive technology, not only automated checks.
- Measure and improve Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP and CLS) on real mid-range phones with patchy connections.
- Handle server data with TanStack Query and Server Components, so screens stay fast and never show a stale offer.
- Turn Figma designs into working screens, and raise questions kindly before you build something that will not hold up on a small screen.
What you’ll need
- 2+ years shipping React to real users, in TypeScript you would be glad to have reviewed.
- Strong CSS: responsive layout, fluid type, and Tailwind CSS or something close to it.
- Accessibility as a habit: keyboard navigation, screen reader labels, contrast and reduced motion.
- You know what makes a page slow on a phone, and you have measured and fixed it with Lighthouse or WebPageTest.
- Experience with Next.js, either the App Router or the Pages Router, and with data fetching in React.
- You test your work with Vitest, React Testing Library or Playwright.
Education: A degree in computer science is welcome but not required; a few screens you are proud of matter more.
Nice to have
- React Server Components in production.
- Animation with Motion (formerly Framer Motion) that explains what just happened and never shows off.
- Building a mobile web product used across more than one language or country.
- Experience at a marketplace (Airbnb, Uber, Urban Company, Swiggy, Airtasker, TaskRabbit, Upwork) or another two-sided product.

About Taskly
Taskly is a marketplace for getting anything done. Someone posts a task in their own words — typed, spoken or as a photo — and people who have been reviewed and approved send offers at a firm price. They pick one, and it gets done: a TV mounted, a website built, a parent taught to use their phone. We’re live in Canada and India and opening to more countries, built by a small team that works remotely across India, the US, Canada and the UAE.
Questions about this role

How much experience do I need?
About 2–5 years. It’s a guide, not a cut-off: if you can do the work described here, apply.
What does the Frontend Developer role pay?
Pay isn’t listed here yet. It depends on the country you work from and your experience, and it’s discussed openly in your first conversation.

What does the hiring process look like?
A 45-minute conversation with the person you’d work beside, then one paid day on a real problem, then a decision in writing, with the reason.
Do I need a portfolio of well-known apps?
No. A few screens you built, and an honest account of what you fixed and measured, is plenty.
Something else? Ask it in your application. A person reads it and answers within ten working days.
We don’t use AI to screen, score or rank applications: a person reads every one. If you upload a resume, AI reads it only to pre-fill your form, and you check every field before you send.
Taskly is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome people of every background, gender, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation and nationality, and we don’t ask about any of them. If anything about the process doesn’t work for you, tell us in your application and we’ll change it.
